THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS

Birth of Christ

Skinny, the Finance Manager: I have to do the Christmas shopping today before it is too late!

Chris: I almost got bowled over by three Hokkien-speaking aunties while shopping for Christmas presents today!

Sugar: Aiyah… salary not out yet how to buy presents??

* for your info, the three people I mentioned here are Christians, and they don’t celebrate Christmas like some of us, just for fad, rather than understanding the real meaning of Christmas.

I don’t understand the hype of celebrating Christmas with presents and Santa Claus. Afterall, it’s Jesus’ birthday. Instead of rewarding Him and God, we reward ourselves. People pig out on scrumptious meals, exchange presents, drink till pissed drunk, making a fuss over the turkey, etc and the retailers laughing all the way to the Bank.

Skinny argued that this is the special day where family members come together and enjoy each other’s company. By buying presents, etc, we show that we care for them.

Chris complained that I don’t understand because I am not a Christian. What? Christianity is all about buying Christmas presents for friends and family?

I didn’t argue with Sugar because she is my boss.

I just shook my head in disagreement.

There is no need for a special day to show our appreciation to family members. We could do it everyday.

If only… we could control our temper, help them in every little way everyday – doing your chores without being told, putting a blanket on your loved ones at night to keep them from cold, watching vigilantly while your clumsy sister attempting to park at a constraint space, or enduring watching some terrible Wah Lai Toi series with them without complaining, etc would be priceless as compare to any expensive Christmas presents.

As much as I refuse to acknowledge there is an existence of God, my sub conscience tells me not to deny it.

I disapprove those people who go to church every Sunday morning, yet living in sins every other six days of the week. Afterall, God is merciful, God is forgiving?

Now you know why I am an atheist.

Going to churches faithfully doesn’t make you a good Christian, being a vegetarian doesn’t make you a good Buddhist or Hindu, praying five times a day doesn’t make you a good Muslim, and the list goes on.

Everything boils down to oneself. Instead of thinking of me, myself and I, all the time; we should be thinking on how much good we can give to others.

It is easier to be said than done, but actions always speak louder than words.

Instead of fidgeting about what presents to get for friends/family, or what presents you will be getting, we should be thinking; what other ways to help those who are in need, who have we wronged and did we ask them for their forgiveness or have you thank God for every little things He has blessed you with?

Having said all that, you guys probably think I am a wet blanket or a party pooper or maybe a spinster filled with hatred for the world just because not getting laid.

Well, we can still celebrate, just that we must understand the true meaning of Christmas and do not forget those who are less fortunate.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

For a self-confessed atheist you undertstand the true meaning of Christmas more than a lot of Christians. This day is not about us. It is about Him. Have a Merry Christmas.

There was a huge different between was and is a Christian. What you choose to believe will draw your references in life to either argue, doubt and redoubt and requestion again about certain path in life especially such things call faith. Do you recall the joy and peace when you say that sinner’s prayer? Forget about the aftermath whether you sidetrack or not… Christmas is about us and Jesus…well, there is something about Jesus that you once love.. hehe..
