LITTLE GEM IN SENTUL

From left to right, clock wise - Sizzling Banana leaf calamari & prawn with butter, Lala soup and Fried Chicken Wings

I have been a regular patron of Lau Heong Seafood Restaurant in Sentul for the past 4 years. It would be doing my fellow gluttons out there injustice if I don’t blog about it.. a truly precious gem.

They are famous for their claypot curry sting ray, lala soup, fried chicken wings (they come in pairs, so when you order, if you say 4 – means 8 pieces), banana leaf sizzling calamari and prawn in butter and claypot cat fish.

What is a Chinese restaurant if they don’t offer their signature taufoo right? The succulent taufoo is mixed with fish meat and fried to crisp golden perfection, and served with thai chilli sauce.

Since I have been going there pretty often, I have tried almost every dish they offer. Their specialties are basically the ones listed as above, but you may try to order other regular Chinese specialties like the pork ribs, steamed assam fish, etc.

Claypot Curry Sting Ray

The most important questions:

How to get there?

Take the Pahang roundabout, go towards Setapak.

You will see Tawakal Hospital on your left. Go straight. Keep left. On your left, you will pass by a Chinese School, Mc Donald’s and a Shell petrol Station.

Immediately after the McD's, look out for a sign board – Jalan Sentul. Turn left into Jalan Sentul till you reach a traffic light. You will see a mosque on your left. At the traffic lights, go straight for about 20 seconds, look out for the signboard – JALAN SEHALA, turn into the road, find parking, either near the dumpster or further up. Weekends can be pretty crowded.

The restaurant is right in the middle of a row of shops.

The Cost: Not very expensive. We had the four dishes (as in pics) for less than RM55.

The Taste: The best curry sting ray on the planet, and the lala soup is to die for.. the banana leaf thingy sent Budak Kilang (a chic i met in the gym's steam room) into a frenzy.. and the fried chicken.. is a bit salty, nevertheless.. Oommphhh..

Operating time: Everyday, from 11 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 10 pm

Hope you enjoy the delicacies, as much as I do.
